"Weekly" devlog of 4/21-4/28 and 4/28-5/5


Sorry for missing last week! I was a little sick during last week unfortunately.

That means I have double the things to document for this week!

Lets start with some large updates and changes;

  • Implemented 2 more sword animations.
  • Successfully made sword animations combo into each other (with indication of when to click).
  • added better hitboxes for all swords, and a "tipper" hitbox to one of the attacks.

This week I added a ton of effects to increase the "juice" of certain actions, and increase the feedback of the player controller;

  • Added a smoke effect when the player accelerates (and screen shake).
  • Added some dust when the player steps (while running).
  • Added an indication for when player uses double jump (and more screen shake).
  • Made some frames of running animation display for longer than others to feel more realistic.
  • Added some red particles when an enemy is hit.
  • Time gets slowed when an enemy is hit (the system was changed).
  • Added text that displays when an enemy or the player takes damage.
  • Re-made sparks animation that plays whenever sword hits anything.
  • Added smoother camera zoom when the player enters/exits an elevator

Lastly just a couple of features to make the game a little more accessible;

  • Re-did control map so the game is playable with one hand if desired
  • Made the settings for volume function properly
